Corima got its name from COmmittee for RIsk MAnagement. Esko Blokker, the owner/director of Corima, started this Committee in 1989, when he on behalf of the Dutch government and DCMR Environmental Protection Agency supervised the Dutch contribution to the UN-Inter-Agency Program for Risk Assessment and Risk Management in Complex Industrial Areas.

At that time the Netherlands was a forerunner in the field of quantitative risk assessment and risk management. In the UN- Inter-Agency program participated the agencies IAEA, UNEP, UNIDO and WHO. It had the objective to introduce the methods of quantitative risk assessment and risk management in such countries where there was not yet much experience with these methods. Later the work broadened into environmental risk assessment and management and general management. Projects in this field were carried out in India, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and we also contributed to projects in Poland, Czechia, Azerbaijan.

In 1993 Esko Blokker established his own company Corima Environmental Consultants. At present Corima operates from Rotterdam, The Netherlands and St Petersburg, Russia. Corima specializes in environmental management for authorities and companies and in risk assessment and risk management.
